In support of the National Year for the Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect, Child Protection Unit Network (CPU-Net) brings to Manila the 7th Asian Regional Conference of the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN).

Medical, legal and psychosocial professionals, government agencies and non-governmental organizations have been working to address the gaps in child protection services but much still needs to be done.

The conference will concentrate on four main themes:

  • child physical and sexual abuse
  • children in conflict with the law
  • children in natural disasters
  • child sex tourism and trafficking

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo issued the Proclamation 1137, declaring October 2006 to October 2007 as the National Year for the Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect. The president joined the CPU-Net and its partners in the launching of the campaign at the Asilo de San Vicente de Paul on November 6, 2006.
